666 of style: Meryl Streep is a power-tripping bitch, but she looks good.

The Devil Wears Prada (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0458352/)

Devil Wears Prada

A few weeks ago, I, probably like many other males in the audience, had the pleasure of seeing The Devil Wears Prada due to our strong values in caring for our significant others. Surprisingly, the movie is watchable to the male viewer, though I also found it a bit boring. My summary of the film is watching Anne Hathaway run throughout New York City doing errands for a glamorous and bitchy Meryl Streep. Halfway through the film Anne dawns new attire and various cute outfits, contrasting greatly with her initial plain dress. To the style conscious the movie is an eyeful. To me, it was tiresome.

This is not to say the movie lacks its charm. As mentioned by A.O. Scott’s NYTimes review, Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci make this movie work. Their characters come across as lively, funny, and bitchy fashionistas. In the end, Anne Hathaway is just there to be thrown around.

While the film didn’t really strike a chord with me (my favorite movie is Die Hard, by the way) and my bias against chickflicky films has shown clearly through this review, it was entertaining for the 100 some minutes it lasted, and my girlfriend enjoyed the eye-candy. She whispers, “Jimmy Choo’s!” with wide eyes like a child at Toys R Us as Stanley Tucci transforms Anne Hathaway into a trendy beauty.

3 cubes of cheese (that’s surprisingly a lot) out of a 5 cube diet

Next time: A cartoon with Substance D!
